Your BBB Foundation Serving Northwest Florida announces the winners of the seventh annual Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics, Customer Service Excellence Award and Student Ethics Scholarship from its District I area: Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
At the ceremony, the past chair of the BBB Foundation of Northwest Florida, Jim Cox, received the President’s Award for his support of the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics program.
The Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics was created to publicly recognize business and charities that insist on exceptionally high standards of behavior. BBB Foundation recognizes winners in four categories: charity, 1-10 employees, 11-49 employees and 50 or more employees.
The Waterfront Rescue Mission received the charity category Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics. They had over a dozen letters of recommendation for the award. Donors, volunteers, representatives of partner agencies, and organizations that had hired WRM clients all spoke highly of the organization’s integrity.
Blue Angel Stor-It-Mate received the Torch Award for Marketplace in the smallest business category. The concern they show for customers, their commitment to advertising ethically and the respect with which they treat their employees all made Blue Angel Stor-It-Mate stand out.
In the 11-49 employees category, Pro Clean Restoration and Cleaning received the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics. Their mission is to wow every customer and during their interview with the judges, they explained how they do that. They call each customer after the job is done to follow up. And they showed a stack of complimentary comment cards from customers.
The final Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics went to Premier Island Management Group, in the 50 or more employees category. They have a number of customers to serve and they do an excellent job of balancing the needs of each. They treat their vendors, owners, guests and employees with respect. They’re careful not to use any altered images in their advertising to avoid the appearance of .
BBB’s Customer Service Excellence Award was added to the Torch Award program three years ago to recognize individual employees who stand out. Amanda Shadden, from Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, was highly recommended by her supervisor, her coworkers and volunteers with the organization. Amanda makes sure they get the assistance they need, even if NMCRS isn’t able to help.
In addition to recognizing ethical businesses, your BBB also awarded three, $1,000 Student Ethics Scholarships to local students. Nicholas Gupta, from Pensacola High School, Katharine Patricia Smith, from Milton High School, and Maranda Faith Wise, from Jay High School, were this year’s recipients from your BBB’s District I area. The scholarship winners were asked to read their essay on character building, required as part of the application process for their scholarship.
