WHAT:
We are delighted to announce that the Council of Better Business Bureaus will have the special privilege of ringing the New York Stock Exchange Closing Bell this Friday, July 27, in recognition of the national Better Business Bureau Centennial.  This bell-ringing event celebrates 100 years of BBB efforts to advance trust in the marketplace, and honors the high standards upheld by BBB Accredited Businesses and Charities.

Thank you for all you have done to contribute to this extraordinary 100-year milestone!  We greatly appreciate your partnership with your Better Business Bureau and our programs.

Carrie A. Hurt, President and CEO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus will ring the bell.  She will be joined on the NYSE Euronext bell podium by Metro New York BBB President and CEO Claire Rosenzweig; Metro New York BBB Board Chair Rhonda J. McLean, Deputy General Counsel of Time Inc.; members of the CBBB management team; and members of the Metro New York BBB Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

The ringing of the bell will be filmed by NYSE Euronext and uploaded to their YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/nysetv1) soon after the 3:00 p.m. CDT market close. You can also watch a live webcast of the event, beginning at 2:59 p.m. CDT at http://www.nyse.com/about/Video/newsbriefings.html, where the BBB bell-ringing ceremony is already listed.

As we move into our second century, Better Business Bureau continues to help consumers find businesses, brands and charities they can trust. In 2011, consumers turned to BBB more than 100 million times for BBB services such as Business Reviews on more than 4 million companies and Charity Reviews on over 11,000 charities, all available any time at www.bbb.org.

WHY:

BBB was founded in 1912 by corporate executives who were fed up with deceptive advertising and fraudulent claims. For a century, BBB has fostered trust in the marketplace by helping consumers make smarter buying decisions through BBB Business Reviews; resolving disputes between consumers and businesses; and educating the public on scams and fraud. Nearly 400,000 Accredited Businesses and National Partners share BBB’s commitment to ethical business via stringent standards and best practices and, thanks to their support, nearly all BBB services are free to the public.
