On Friday, Oct. 28, your Better Business Bureau® Foundation partnered with Gilmore Services, WEAR-TV, CatCountry 98.7 Radio and Qantum Communications to hold another succesful free shredding event at two locations in northwest Florida – Pensacola and Mary Esther.
A record number of participants came to Santa Rosa Mall in Mary Esther: 604 cars brought approximately 17,000 pounds of sensitive documents to be responsibly destroyed by Gilmore Services and received information about protecting themselves from identity thieves. In Pensacola, 1,291 cars brought 33,000 pounds of documents to be shredded.
“We’re happy to offer this event with our partners,” said Jacob Gilmore, Vice President of Purchasing and Finance at Gilmore Services. “It’s a great opportunity for the community to shred unneeded personal documents, keeping them out of the hands of potential identity thieves.”
“Florida residents are really targeted by identity thieves – for the second year in a row, Florida has the most incidents of identity theft cases reported per capita,” said Norman Wright, president and CEO of your BBB. “It’s critical that we educate the community about identity theft and give them the opportunity to effectively get rid of sensitive documents.”
